Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina is the passion project of Mainsail Lodging & Development president and founder, Joe Collier, who fell in love with the private island while vacationing in 2003. Captivated by its natural beauty and sense of seclusion, Collier envisioned a world-class destination that would honor the island’s character while elevating the guest experience.

Construction began in 2005, with Collier and the Mainsail team committed to preserving the island’s intimate ambiance as they developed a refined, well-serviced resort community. That vision came to life in February 2010 with the opening of the $150 million boutique resort—offering luxury accommodations, a full-service marina, exceptional dining, and signature experiences in the heart of the British Virgin Islands.
 

In June 2023, Mainsail expanded its footprint with the transformation of a neighboring 8-acre island into Marina Cay Bar & Grill—a vibrant tropical outpost offering Caribbean-inspired cuisine in a breezy, open-air setting with panoramic views of Tortola and surrounding cays. Managed by Scrub Island, Marina Cay is accessible via the resort’s private ferry and welcomes local residents, travelers, and resort guests alike.
